Welcome to Weekly Wishes, a personal goal setting community where you can share your upcoming dreams and connect with other goal-setters. I’d love for you to join us and add a link to your own goal-oriented blog post! It’s a great way to make new friends from around the world and gain some motivation to achieve your weekly aspirations.

Happy belated Thanksgiving, everyone! After taking a few days off, I’m excited to be back in action. Looking back, November was filled with a lot of happiness. I went on a trip to Portland, started really getting into yoga, and spent some quality time with people I care about. I also had a happy Thanksgiving with Paul’s family (soo much good food!). How was your Thanksgiving?

This weekend, we checked out the OC Zoo, a tiny but cute zoo in Irvine. We also went to an animal shelter (again!) “just to look.” Neither of us really has any intention of getting a new dog right now, but I’m pretty sure all these animal shelter visits will wear us down eventually. 😉 Paul and I have also been trying to cook more lately. In the past, we used to eat out all the time, but cooking together is becoming one of our favorite things! So far we’ve made homemade pasta sauces, pizza, Thai food, and soup — our collection of spices is growing! Do you like to cook? Send me a link to one of your favorite recipes! 🙂

How was your month?

Last Month’s Wishes

  1. E-COUUUURSSSEEE. I’ve been working pretty diligently on it! I also had an idea for how to expand it into more of a community — I’m excited! I’m hoping and wishing to release it before 2015.
  2. Make yoga a habit. I’m happy to say that it has become a habit! I’m really diggin’ it. 🙂 I’m hoping to go 4-5 times this week!
  3. Visit Portland! You bet! More to come on that this week, too!
  4. Get back into blogging. Gah! If my quiet week last week is any indication, I need some more help in this department. I think I fell off the wagon in October, when I got very busy with work. Now, I need to work on building blogging back into my daily routine.
  5. Revise the “behind-the-scenes” parts of my business. Shucks! I forgot about this one.

This Month’s Wishes

  1. Be INTENTIONAL with social media. Do you ever find yourself scrolling aimlessly through Twitter or waking yourself up in the morning with your Facebook newsfeed? I do. Way too often. I don’t get much out of it, and it just ends up becoming a time suck. I also realized that I haven’t posted on Instagram in quite a while and would really like to put more effort into that platform. Overall, I want to spend less time scrolling and more time posting unique + interesting content.
  2. Go to at least 16 yoga classes. That would mean I’d be going about 4 times a week, which is more than I’ve ever gone before. I think I’ll make myself a little chart and check off a box each time I go. I never really thought I’d be in this position, but I’m happy! I’m also kind of excited to one day see changes in my body. The last (and only) time I worked out this much was probably when I played freshman basketball in high school, but at that time I wasn’t focused on toning myself. Now, I think it will be pretty neat to eventually see my arms and legs become more fit.
  3. Make a plan for 2015! The last two years, I’ve bought Leonie Dawson’s Create Your Amazing Year workbooks. I love them — her words are filled with so much love and intention. But the only problem is that I don’t carve out enough time to actually finish them. I’m going to buy her new workbook right meow and get started asap! I also want to do some of my own planning, to decide exactly what I want my blog and business to look like by this time next year. I’m so excited!

What are your monthly goals for December?!

p.s. Check back later today! I’ll be sharing a fun gift guide with my top picks for the season. 🙂

  1. I need to get on my 2015 planning as well! I cannot believe that we only have 31 days – 2014 flew right by.

And I second the social media scrolling… I just magically find myself on Instagram a lot lately. FOR NO REASON. lol And I scroll until I see the last picture that I recognize too, or until IG kicks me out and stops the scroll. lol

  2. esther julee says:

OMG that’s amazing that you’re making yoga a habit! I am supposed to go to barre classes at least 3 times a week.. but so far it’s been 3 times the last month. oops! :p Good luck on this month’s goals! And I hope you get back to blogging more! 🙂

  3. Maria Aldrey says:

I like to cook, I wish I could do it more often. My favourite recipe is a Baked Spaghetti with Sausage from budget bytes http://www.budgetbytes.com/2012/09/baked-spaghetti-with-sausage/ all of her stuff is incredible and delicious.
I’m on the same page with you about social media, you don’t even realize when you’re in the deepest rabbit hole and you just wasted productive time, it makes me a little angry too.
This is my first time on the Linkup, I’ve been reading it for a while but I decided to jump in before the year-end. Good luck with your plans for the month!

  4. Cori says:

    Hi Mel:
Lately I’ve also been thinking that cooking is fun~ I’ve tried make some quick and simple desserts (like a microwave brownie) and it was delicious~!
Oh! I can’t wait for your E-course, I’ll be looking forward more information about it 😀
And I loved your goal for this month about the social media… I need to do the same with Twitter, I still find it difficult to use, maybe I’m overthinking it 😛
    Have a lovely week Mel!
    Hugs ♥!

  5. Hi Mel,
Thanks for the link to the Leonie Dawson’s workbooks. They look like a great purchase.
I’ve also decided to step up my yoga routine. I can’t afford to go to regular classes so I’ve decided to look at YouTube videos and try to do them at least 3 times a week – even if it means waking up early and doing it before work!
    Jenny

  6. Kayse says:

Mel, I am sooooo excited you got hooked on yoga!!!!

  7. Because I’m a college athlete, I don’t have much time for other forms of physical activity, but over winter break I’d like to get back into yoga, because it’s going to be difficult for me to find a pool while traveling anyway. I also need to get back into blogging, but I may hold off spending too much time on it until after my finals! Oh gosh, I can’t believe how quickly 2015 is approaching. (Also, your point about being intentional with social media is something I need to work on too haha) -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s

  8. I haven’t been super active in the blogging sphere lately, so I’m a bit late on the uptake, but I am in love with the new look. Turquoise is my favorite color, and it’s just so fun! 🙂 When I do yoga at home I just use yoga journal. They have so many videos – some are really good and some are not so great, but it’s a good way to use videos at home!

  9. Ktcyril says:

Thank you for introducing me to that workbook! I’ve already purchased it. They look amazing.

  10. I’m trying to get into a yoga routine, I’ve been doing mostly online. Youtube has a ton. I’ll have to look into the workbook…sounds interesting.

  11. I have also been working on making social media intentional.. Hootsuite is a brilliant tool to help! If you’re not already using it, I highly recommend it. Any time I have an idea for a good post, (on any social media outlet) I write it down and schedule out posts later. 🙂

  12. Hey Melyssa – thanks for hosting an awesome link up for people who take action! Seems like a lot of us are trying to work on the social media thang. Sending you a virtual yoga fist bump (if there is such a thing!). Cheers to a productive week.

  13. glimmersnaps says:

Social media is such a time suck. My daughter accidentally deleted my FB app and it turned out to be such a relief!

  14. You are a strong girl! I think my husband’s worst fear might be me going to an animal shelter as I would surely bring home 100 dogs. At least. 🙂
I looove to cook in the fall/winter – seems to be harder to stick with it during the warmer months for us, but lately we’ve been spending a ton of time in the kitchen too! My absolute favorite thing to make is pizza layer bread! This recipe is amazing, but I really love it because you can change it up so easily. You guys should definitely make it (perfect with homemade pasta sauce)! http://www.tequilacupcakes.com/football-food-pizza-layer-bread-with-balsamic-onions-sun-dried-tomatoes/

  15. It sounds like you had a great month! I really enjoy cooking too. One of my favorite blogs is Ambitious Kitchen–and she used to live in Minnesota, so that was a plus too! She posts a lot of healthy recipes, but she also has some indulgent ones, so I’ve found her blog to be a great mix of healthy and fun. She has a lot of vegetarian/vegan recipes (although she isn’t strictly vegetarian or vegan, so she does have some recipes with meat too). I have loved everything of hers that I have made. 🙂 Good luck with your goals this month! I’m excited to see what’s ahead for you and your blog in 2015!

  16. A YES-vote from me on more on Instagram! Teehee. I think you’ll have a ball planning for the brand new year, nothing gets more exciting than that!

  17. Lindsay says:

November sounded stellar! Love that you were bitten by the yoga bug, I just adore that time on the mat! Sounds like December is going to be awesome too:) One of my fave recipes: http://simply2suitcases.com/2014/11/cranberry-packed-pumpkin-muffins.html

  18. I like your goals this month, some of them I need to adopt as well. Check list always help me accomplish my goals because I enjoy checking things off of a list. That goal books sounds interesting, do you like it so far, are the worksheets relevant to what you are doing?

  19. Gina Alyse says:

So glad you got to make yoga a habit! I want to find something like this that I love to get me more active! Also, I love what you said about social media. I feel like it takes a lot of intentional time and effort in developing these platforms but it also gives us a chance to really be creative with them!

  20. Stacia says:

I’ve been planning my time on social media more recently and I’ve found it helps a lot with the mindless scrolling. Also, latergramme helps me a lot when I have a busy week but know I want to remember to share intentional things on Instagram. 🙂 I hope that you have a wonderful December with all your goals! I gave myself a couple business goals and then made a ton of fun ones. I plan on taking this month a little slower so I can really enjoy my favorite time of the year. 🙂

  21. Astrid says:

These are all great goals. Totally with you on the blogging thing more. Also, need to look into this workbook and start doing yoga a few times a week.

  22. cheyenne says:

i’m with you on the intentional social media goal! especially when it comes to blogs, but also on other platforms, i too often scroll through everything, scanning bits and parts. now i try to only open the articles that genuinely sound interesting to me, and read them word for word. it has also helped making me feel more calm, instead going through everything so quickly.
    xo, cheyenne
