Make Something Today! Cute print!!

The Creative Collective is a year-long community building, creative program (though you can jump in and join us at any time!). I’ve thought of 23 fun activities for us to do (roughly two/month), which are designed to help you exert creativity in all its forms — from writing and photography to painting and even bartending, we’re going to get creative in the best ways! Just visit this post to read all of the year’s prompts. On the specified day, I will hold a link up here, on my blog, where you can share a blog post or photo related to YOUR project. Then, we can all peruse each other’s artwork and make new friends to fuel our creativity during 2014. Can I get a WOOOOOHOOOOOO?

Here’s today’s prompt:

Take a Skillshare class

Easy enough, right? I ended up enrolling in two Skillshare classes (and “wish listing” like ten…) because I just couldn’t decide. The two that I opted for were “Styling Your Space Like a Pro” taught by Justina Blakeney (Love her!!) and “The First Steps of Hand-Lettering: Concept to Sketch.” I narrowed it down to these two classes because lately I’ve been really into both interior styling and hand lettering and would love some professional direction on my new hobbies. I like Skillshare classes because you can do them at your own pace and they’re cheap ways to get insider knowledge and pro advice. Plus, they’re just fun, right? 🙂 I am still working through my classes, so I don’t have a whole lot to show today, but that image at the top was a piece I did that was inspired by my hand-lettering class! And come to think of it, the way it’s styled might have been influenced by my styling class?? Didn’t even think of that! I don’t usually draw, but my lettering class made me want to broaden my spectrum a bit more and I really love what I created. It’s also helped me create lots more pieces in a similar style and I feel like I’m starting to get into my groove. Which Skillshare class did you take for this week’s theme? Share it in the link up below! I can’t wait to see everything that y’all decided to learn. 🙂 And here are a few pretty pictures from my teachers, based on the themes of the classes I’m taking. 🙂

 Our Next Prompt Is…

“Become a Pseudo-Bartender.” Create a new cocktail recipe. Give it a fun name and serve it to your friends if you can! I’m super excited for this one! I think it will be super fun and I’m already brainstorming ideas. 🙂 This one will be featured here on March 19th, so get to experimenting soon!

Creative Collective Linkup RULES

  1. You MUST leave a comment on the person’s blog who linked up directly before you. Check out their post, share some love, and make them feel like a creative all-star. (Don’t worry, the person who links up after you will return the favor!…Comments for everyone!).
  2. Please link up your posts or photos related to our Creative Collective prompt. Do not share links to unrelated DIY projects or to your blog’s homepage. They will be deleted.
  3. If you like this project, share it! The more the merrier, ya dig? I even made a cute little button for your blogs, which links back to the Creative Collective page! Just copy the code and you’re good to go. 🙂

Toni of One Chocolate Box

toni
Now I’m excited to share this month’s Featured Sponsor! Toni is the incredibly sweet woman who writes the down-to-earth and inspiring blog, One Chocolate Box. She lives in New Zealand where shares plenty about what her life there is like. She also shares plenty of other things that will probably make you smile and think, like this one about learning to love your body and this one about why she no longer cares about the numbers in blogging. I love that many of her posts focus on both travel and self-improvement. She’s honest, sweet, and will probably make you feel like you can make the same simple and brave decisions she does. 🙂 If you’re new to her blog, I recommend checking out this post about figuring out what you love about yourself or this one about what it’s like when you’re from two different places. And if you only have a minute to be inspired, this short but sweet post is so worth checking out. 🙂 All in all, Toni is a really lovely blogger. Go say hi!

Please pick five words to describe yourself/your blog.
For myself, I’d pick the words “quirky, shy, dreamer”. For my blog, it’s a toss up between “self-growth” and “polymorphic”.
What is your biggest dream for the future?
I’m heading over to the UK in 2015 – all by myself! I don’t have any family or close friends there, so I’m a bit terrified, but really excited! Ultimately though, and this is going to sound really cheesy, my biggest dream is to meet the love of my life and be a mother.
What do you do to stay creative?
I try to get inspiration from the things around me. If I feel really stifled, I head out and wander around town, observe other people, browse through some magazines. I always carry a pen and a little ideas notebook so I can scribble everything down. There is no idea that is too crazy!
What makes you happy?
Coffee, hugs, my cat, books, pretty stationery, spending time with my friends and having a laugh with my amazing mom.
In 15 words or less, share your best piece of advice.
Be kind to yourself.
  1. Midsommarflicka says:

Although I more or less failed this task … I still wrote a post about it,because it was the perfect opportunity to tell about all the MOOCs I’m enrolled in 😉
But the hand-lettering class you took looks pretty awesome. It’s definitely going on my wishlist!

    Have a great day!
    Love, Midsommarflicka

  2. i just went on skillshare for the first time today! i’m going to be filling my time with all their classes from now on : )

  3. Very fun! I love that you are finding ways to increase your creativity and others.

  4. I am a big fan of Skillshare! You’re doing better than me if you only signed up for two classes. I signed up for five awhile ago (I just couldn’t decide!) but have slowly been making my way through them because life has been busy. 🙂 The hand lettering class that you’re in is one that I’m signed up for.

  5. I’m taking the same handlettering class!!! Uh – my post is gonna be late but I’ll get to it by tomorrow!! 🙂

  6. Food Booze & Baggage says:

I have to say that I’m actually quite disappointed in the participation for this one 🙁 No judgement at all, but I was really looking forward to seeing what other Skillshare classes everyone else took. I loved the couple I took and was hoping to see some other recommendations.

  7. Zobia says:

I have never heard of Skillshare. Finding more ways to be creative and learning new things is never a bad thing!

  8. esther julee says:

i’m taking the calligraphy class right now… but just did the intro. did you end up buying the same tools she said? like the nikko g nib? they aren’t at any of the local craft stores that i’ve been to.

  9. esther julee says:

styling your space like a pro sounds really interesting too! i’m always envious of how collected all the home photos are on pinterest. 😛
