The Creative Collective is a year-long community building, creative program (though you can jump in and join us at any time!). I’ve thought of 23 fun activities for us to do (roughly two/month), which are designed to help you exert creativity in all its forms — from writing and photography to painting and even bartending, we’re going to get creative in the best ways! Just visitĀ this postĀ to read all of the year’s prompts. On the specified day, I will hold a link up here, on my blog, where you can share a blog post or photo related to YOUR project. Then, we can all peruse each other’s artwork and make new friends to fuel our creativity during 2014. Can I get a WOOOOOHOOOOOO?

Here’s today’s prompt:

Hunting for Photos:Ā Go on a photo hunt and create a themed set of at least five photos. Some possible theme ideas: life/death, innocence, shapes, or certain colors.

Singapore-Art

While racking my brain for what my photo theme could be, I realized that the only thing I had any interest in expressing was the idea of “art.” What is art? Beats me. I kind of think it’s everything. But even given that little fact, I also think people can have a tough time believing it. To me, we’re all inherently creative — perhaps just in our own ways. I think the real foundation of art is in the beauty of interaction — how a beam of light interacts with a leaf, the way a painter confronts her brushes, or even how a dog destroys his toys, pulling out the stuffing with enthusiastic force. It’s all just communication from one body to another.

Painting-Art

The photos I chose are meant to represent the wide range of art in our world. Some of them I took recently on my “photo hunt,” and others are old photos that felt too necessary to leave out. Let’s go on a walk together — I’ll show you some beautiful things. šŸ™‚

Bridges-Art

^Ā I love bridges and overpasses. They always make me feel small and, for some reason, creative.

Bboy-Art

^ I love that dancing allows us to use our bodies to create art.

Disguise-Art

^Disguises are definitely art.

Monja-Art

^ Monja’s art.

Tires-Art

Snow-Art

^ I found this car buried in the snow while living in Northern Japan. I always wondered a bit about how it got there, and if it ever made it out.

Typography-Art

People-Art

^ I’ve always liked this picture — maybe because I enjoy one-on-one conversations with friends, or perhaps because it reminds me of the simple human connections we form everyday.

What is art to you?

Our Next Prompt Is…

WEDNESDAY, May 21st: “Interview someone.”Ā Perhaps someone with a career youā€™re fascinated by or a family member whose past youā€™d love to learn more about (donā€™t make the mistake of not learning about your family before theyā€™re gone!). You could even interview a blogger! Bonus points if youā€™re able to take editorial photos of your interviewee to include with your write-up.
