Creative Business Cards

Before heading to Alt Summit, a big design and blogging conference, I had heard all about the creative Alt Summit business cards I should expect to receive. In years past, it wasn’t uncommon for people to adorn their cards in gold foil, make them out of clear plastic, or attach gifts, such as cookie cutters or jewelry. I felt like I was a wee bit in over my head, as the only thingĀ my current cards had going for them were rounded corners — yikes.Ā I decided to order some new cards from Moo’s Luxe line, sans rounded edges, but with a thicker body and pink edges that I added myself. I also handed out a mini-print in honor of the paper goods I’ve been working on.

I like things to be clutter-free and simple, so I just included the most basic info — my name, a brief description of what I do, my URL, and my email address. I did appreciate the convenience when people listed all their social media handles on their cards, but I still like the simplicity of my design.

Here are my painted edges! I’ll share a tutorial on how to do this sometime soon, but it was pretty easy and the cards turned out very well. I liked that I used pink because it was easy to see. I used different paint colors on some of the cards, which is why they look a little stripey in the photo below, but individually they look normal. šŸ™‚

I intended to put my business card and the mini print together into a clear sleeve and then tie them in baker’s twine. I had a vision, you guys. But the night before my flight at 11pm, I began attempting to stuff them into the clear sleeves and realized I bought a size too small. There was no way they were going to fit. So the next morning, on my way to the airport, I bought some black paperclips and attached the print and business cardsĀ that way. Not quite at cute, I guess, but on my way out of the office supply store in LA, aĀ womanĀ and I exchanged sincere compliments as we passed by each other on the street. It made me smile and calmed my Alt Summit nerves. I tend to remember the oddest, little moments of my connections with people, but it’s hard for me to forget sincerity. The little things, y’know?

Creative Business Cards

I am a quote-a-holic, so choosing a quote that I wanted to share with people was really hard for me. I love Roald Dahl, however, and I think taking risks and being a little crazy is one of the best ways to succeed. So I give you Exhibit A:

By the way, I want to stress how silly of me it was to feel so concerned about the fashion and creative business cards of Alt Summit. Honestly, I didn’t think people were as extravagant as I expected — in a good way.Ā I realize now that being authentic is the most important thing, or perhaps, the only thing.

What do you think of the cards? Do you have business cards for your blog?

p.s. I have some leftover mini-prints (they’re 4″x6″) and would love to throw one in if you buy anything here. šŸ™‚
