In college I coordinated a weekend photoshoot with a bunch of my friends. 30-40 people showed up and spent the day transforming into a model, photographer, stylist, or all of the above. We traded clothes in parking lots, brought household items as props, and roamed around the city snapping photos of each other. Most people had never modeled before and no one was a professional photographer — we were all amateurs in our own ways, but spending the day with so many creative friends who dared to step out of their comfort zones was so refreshing.
In that same vein, I thought it would be fun to start doing some style posts around these parts. Outfit posts will still, likely, be pretty minimal, but I did have an enormous amount of fun shooting these photos with my friend, Naadine! It’s amazing to make creative things, but it’s an entirely new sensation when you are the creative thing — when your body and clothes and expressions interact with your environment to create some sort of art. So, I’m probably not vying for a spot as the next fashion blogger, but if dancing in front of colorful walls makes me feel more alive, then you better believe I’m down. 🙂

I’m cracking up in the last photo because there were people around while I was dancing. So.many.people. Or at least it felt that way! haha!

Fixing my hair or flexing my muscles? You decide. 😉

I don’t wear a lot of jewelry, but I’ve been wearing that ring with two hands embracing since I was in junior high. I tend to hold onto things that are meaningful for entirely too long. Also, yes, my shirt is missing a button. This is probably why I could never be a fashion blogger. 😉

Would you ever do an outfit post?

you look fab! LOVE the colored walls. I need to find me some of those and a Naadine 🙂
Thanks Betsy! I know, right? They were just random walls around her neighborhood — I love them too!
You look adorable, I love the skirt!
Thanks Kaelene! 🙂
You look great and I am actually in the midst of writing an outfit post and the shirt I have on for it has a spot so maybe we are creating a new trend 😉
HAHA #dirtybloggers trend. We got this.
You look beautiful! x
Thanks Amanda! <3
I love this! Absolutely love it!
Aww thank you Cheri! 🙂
Love this! And – you look just like Michelle Dockery!
Never heard of her…must go investigate. 🙂
I love your outfit and I think this is a great post!
Aw thanks Elizabeth! 🙂
You look cute!!
Thanks Pamela!! 🙂
Looking fantastic! love the outfit!
so cute! I’d totally do a fashion post but I’d be taking self-portraits, which I know is possible but can be awkward. =)
So cute! Now I want to know all about your tattoo!
Ohh maybe I’ll share one day! 🙂
Why are you so cute?! I love these kinds of things. I can’t wait for more of this.
Thanks girlfriend! 🙂
I’ve done one official one and a few where I’ve highlighted an outfit. Very few!! It feels like too much work. Love your maxi! I’m so into those right now.
haha It IS a lot of work, isn’t it? I don’t know how fashion bloggers do it everyday. Commitment!!
i would.. if i knew how to put together better outfits! 😀
Same heeeere! It took me forever to find something in my closet that I wanted to wear for this.
Thanks for sharing a little bit of history with us! You look like you were having so much fun! I have done some outfit posts before but I don’t think it’s my thing unless I’m “feeling it” that day. I would so be the girl with the missing button too. Or the stained sweater (wearing right now) or the not cool hole in my jeans…lol! dija from theinspiredcafe.com
haha I love that! I’d be the girl with dog hair ALL OVER her clothes. 😉
Aww, you’re so cute, Melyssa! 🙂
daww thanks lover! 🙂
How cute! I like it! So, I did one style post on my blog back in September and haven’t done a single one since. It just didn’t feel like what I wanted to get into at the time. I’m thinking about doing one a week or one a month though. I do love fashion, but don’t want it to be the focus.
I totally agree with this, Erin! I like fashion, but don’t want it to be the focus of my blog, so I was hesitant. But I think every once in awhile is okay. 🙂 Go for it!
I love this outfit…I feel like it’s very “you”. 🙂
hehe I like when people say that. Makes me feel understood! 🙂
This is so cute! It makes me think of my college years and how I should have been more proactive like you did, and got groups together to get our creative juices flowing. Oh well, no better time than the present! Maybe I’ll do it and make a post about it. 🙂
Totally agree, no better time than now!! 🙂
You are SO BEAUTIFUL and this is amazing. LOVE. <3
Thank you darlin’! 🙂
You look great and most importantly you’re having fun!
Thank you Tracy! And I agree — fun > everything else. 🙂
It looks like you’re having so much fun in these pictures! This outfit is cute and looks comfortable. 🙂
Looks like you made a friend through blogger’s giving back! To cute!
Melyssa! I’m in love with these photos!! They’re so colorful, fresh and HAPPY! They just made my morning at the office that little bit brighter. I’d love to see more outfit posts from you in the future. It’s always fun to see more of the girl behind the blog 🙂 I’d definitely like to do outfit posts myself but I’m very insecure about my body. I’ll look in the mirror and love my outfit, then I’ll take some full-body photos and I’ll hate them, lol. One day, one day… xx

You are such a sweetheart, Michelle. Thank you! And I for one would love to see outfit posts from you — I bet your body is more beautiful than you think. 🙂
You’re very welcome, you deserve it! I think this might be a goal of mine for this year for my blog. It’d be a big step for me personally so I think it’s a good idea to at least try 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration! xx
I can only repeat what everybody else is saying: these photos are darling, they are bright and happy and awesome! Do more outfit posts! Good for you for going somewhere where there are people around, I still can’t do that. I do mine in our back yard 🙂
And please, do a post about your tattoo, it looks amazing and I would love to find out the story behind it.
Thank you Miriam! You’re too sweet. I definitely don’t think I’d be able to do outfit photos with people around if my friend weren’t there! She told me that when she used to do them by herself, she’d carry her tripod around town and take photos on a timer. Ballsy! haha
Love your outfit post! You are totally beautiful inside and out. I have been toying with doing some outfit posts. I need to have time in the day to do it tough. By the time I get home from work I am afraid I look too haggard, ain’t nobody wanna see that!
HAHA I bet you look beautiful any time of the day! And thank you for being such a sweetheart. 🙂
These are so much more fun than typical fashion blogger outfit posts.I feel like fashion bloggers fird a pose or two and all of their photos are variations on that. These photos are alive, which is so much more fun. When I do outfit posts it’s usually because I made or altered something that I’m wearing.
Thanks Stacia! And your altered clothing shoots sound so awesome! I’d love to get into making clothes one day.
I really want to do a outfit blog post actually. I think eventually I’ll save up for a really nice camera so I can take some high quality pictures. Until then, I’m using my iPhone and probably will refrain from any outfit posts. Hahaha, I love the outftit though!
Yeaah my friend took these with her nice camera. My iPhone is my go-to photo machine, too!
I love the skirt!
Thank you! 🙂
Cute outfit! Yeah, I have thought about doing outfit posts for a while, but haven’t gotten around to it. I really like making sets on Polyvore and posting them from time to time. I think it would be fun to add outfits to the mix.
DO IT! I had so much fun doing this one! 🙂
I think this is my absolute favorite outfit post I’ve ever seen, Melyssa–your personality just shines through!!!
DAW that just made me so happy. Thank you! 🙂
Love this! Now if only I had a person willing to take such amazing photos of me!haha. My boyfriend gets quite fed up after a while 😉
Hmm, this looked like a fun day. I’m still working up the nerve. Love your blog!

I have been surfing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. In my view, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be much more useful than ever before.
