Howdy and Happy Tuesday! I know you all have big hearts, but not always enough time to give back to your community as you might like. Fortunately, there are TONS of businesses and organizations that make giving back a whole lot easier. Today I’m sharing five super easy and awesome ways that you can make the world a better place right meow. Check ’em out below and share other favorites in the comments.
1. Sign up to be an organ donor. If you live in the US, you can sign up to be an organ donor right here. According to the website, you could save up to eight lives! I just signed up — join me!
2. Need glasses? Buy one, give one.

Smart Buy Glasses has a really neat program where they donate glasses to people in need for each pair sold. They work with several non-profit partners around the globe to provide people in Ghana, Indonesia, and other countries with the gift of sight. So far, they’ve sent over 2 million dollars worth of glasses to people with impaired vision. They also sell just about any glasses and sunglasses you can imagine (including popular brands), so if you’re looking for new shades, why wouldn’t you buy them from a company that is making a difference? 😉
3. Loan money to people around the world. Kiva is an awesome organization where people in need can sign up to receive loans in order to achieve their dreams. These borrowers are all varied, from people who need help starting a farm to others who can’t afford to restock their shops. You can loan as little as $5 and there’s almost a 99% reimbursement rate, so you’ll most likely get your money back (to fund other projects, of course!). 🙂
4. Like to exercise? Now you can donate to charity while you do it!

There’s a really neat app called Charity Miles which tracks your distance as you run or bike and donates money to a charity of your choice for each mile you complete. It’s that simple — no money out of your pocket, just plain ol’ giving back. Hows that for motivation to get your exercise on?
5. Need a bag? Check out Better Life Bags. I love when organizations help people learn skills to become self-sufficient. Better Life Bags does just that. Hailing from Detroit, they employ women (mostly first-generation immigrants) who otherwise couldn’t get jobs and pay them fair living wages to make their products. They also teach sewing to a group of women (from Bangladesh), to help them learn skills so that they can get jobs, too. How awesome is that?
Have you heard of these ways to give back? Are there any others out there that you love? Share ’em below!
p.s. There are only THREE spots left for the OC Blogger Brunch happening in a couple weeks. All of our profits from the event will go to charity, so you’ll be giving back just by being there! 🙂

Just signed up to be an organ donor. I never really understood why people are against it. When I went to get my license I forgot to tell them I wanted to be a donor! But I know no matter what happens to me I want to donate everything,
I actually know Rebecca from Better Life Bags and she is fabulous! I love what she’s doing with her business and resources. And her bags are super cute!
I’m really intrigued by the app that donates money for every mile you run. I think I’m going to look into that!
I love Better Life Bags! I’ve been wanting one of their creations for some time now. Do you know FreeRice.com? I use it to practice my Italian vocab…for every correct answer, they donate 10 grains of rice through the World Food Programme. They have lots of subjects to quiz on too!
Love this list!
These are incredible! I just told my mom to check out the Charity Miles app because she’s an avid cyclist and can ride 50-100+ miles at one time! I wonder where the money comes from though.
Love this list! So many great ideas! So simple too!
Have you heard of Krochet Kids International? They teach women to crochet and knit then help them sell their goods, they are located in Newport Beach and often have events in the area and sell items at some stores at The Camp in Costa Mesa.
my close friend donated one of her kidneys this summer to a stranger on the other side of the country. One of the most incredible experiences to witness was her decision to donate an organ to a complete stranger in need. she’s doing SO wonderfully and hasn’t experienced any hiccups since the operation… except she can’t enjoy AS MANY glasses of wine in one sitting as she used to. 🙂
Love this post, Melyssa! I keep lusting after a Kate Spade tote, but I don’t think I can justify it after looking at the Better Bags website. I’d rather spend my money in a way that does some good for someone else.
how awesome that companies are making it easy to give back to those in need. there’s no reason NOT to help!
I just downloaded Charity Miles! Thanks for the tip!
Next time I buy glasses I’ll look into Smart Buy Glasses – what a great idea!
Thanks for writing this up! 🙂 I do love kiva. I think promoting entrepreneurship is the way to go over handouts. I’ve never heard of charity miles, so i’ll definitely check that out.. before the weather gets too hot in vegas. 😛
I love knowing about the one for running and the glasses one. I need new glasses, so I will definitely check there first!
