Have you been following the recent hand lettering trend? I mean, how can you not? It’s everywhere these days. I love it! I especially love the variety of lettering and mediums that people use. It’s neat to see so much of someone in the way they write. As a person who loves words and art, hand lettering feels like my perfect happy place — a combo of the two! From traditional calligraphy to watercolor and standard pens, there are a lot of ways to get different effects in your lettering. I’m still pretty new to lettering, but I’ve dipped my feet in most mediums and really enjoy it. I just ordered some new brush pens, too, so I’m excited to test those out! 🙂
Today, I just want to share some of my favorite examples of hand-lettering that I’ve been collecting on my Pinterest page. Let me know what you think! Which one is your favorite?

Which kind of lettering do you like best? Have you tried it?

I love hand lettering! So pretty 🙂 The only times I don’t like it is when people go a little overboard with the loops and things, making it hard to read. For example I find Elsie’s writing on A Beautiful Mess a bit hard to read sometimes.
I can proudly say that I am obsessed with hand lettering too. I love a more brushed hand lettering … in the artist’s version of script. Just like the ones you have pictured above. xo – Jessika
Same here!
I absolutely love hand-lettering. I’ve started following a bunch of hand-lettering artists on Instagram, and they provide me with so much amazing inspiration and awe. I even wrote a blog post about some of my favorites if you’re interesting in expanding your hand-lettering inspiration collection 🙂 http://chic-type.com/blog/top-25-inspirational-hand-letterers-to-follow-on-instagram/
I just checked out your post and ended up following almost all of them! Thanks for the inspiration. 🙂
I love number 2! F’ing love it! I am now going to hand letter that phrase to hang in my office. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! 🙂
I really do love them all! I am a little bit addicted to fonts as it is!
haha saaame here!
I haven’t tried hand-lettering yet but I’m in a hand-lettering class on Skillshare that I’m excited to get started on. Great examples in this post!
Awesome! I think I’m in that class too — I need to actually take it now! haha
I dig this trend a whole lot. I am so in love with the Van Gogh quote + the Create graphic. That gold foil lettering made me swoon.
I loveee those too! Such talented ladies.
I am definitely obsessed and have been for the last couple of years. I just wish that the hand lettering I tried to make would look half as good as those pieces! I want to take a class soon!
I feel you! I would love to take a class…I feel like I need some pointers haha
I think there’s classes on skillshare? I plan to take a couple soon. And I’m definitely with you on letter envy!
You’re right, there are!
I’m learning calligraphy. I absolutely adore a good typography print. There’s something beautiful and wonderful about taking words and making them into art.
I totally agree! Words as art is my fav. 🙂 That’s awesome that you’re learning calligraphy, too!
I love the gold texture of the last one! And yes, I am obsessed with hand lettering and I’m hoping to learn more about calligraphy this summer and take a couple online classes about it! Thanks for sharing these beautiful works of art and words! 🙂 xo, gina
I love that one too. 🙂 And that’s great — you should!
I love this! Will definitely be getting more into hand lettering AFTER our wedding. Something to look forward to for thank you cards!
Ohh great idea! 🙂
Obsessed? that’s the least word i can say! 😀 thanks for including me girl!
haha and you are SO good at it! Love all of your work. 🙂
YES I am totally obsessed too! Especially watercolor and paint lettering. It’s all just so beautiful!
Yes! Those are my favorites, too 🙂
yes! obsessed. completely and totally! instead of doodling, i write things when i’m sitting in meetings…and i can’t even get enough of what i find on pinterest!
I am totally with you Betsy!
I love hand lettering/calligraphy. But, I kind of suck at it. You have to strike this balance between style and imperfection, and I’m one of those analytical people who obsess over regular angles and straight lines. Those examples are all gorgeous!
Ohh interesting! Have you checked out Lisa Congdon’s work? You might like the straight lines and angles she uses! 🙂
My answer to the title is a resounding yes!! I actually just got some new pens and a sketchbook last week and I’m trying to make time every day to practice because it’s just so darn relaxing! I want to attempt water color next. I would love to take a class though, to know if I’m even close to doing it right! haha (and by that I mean, I’m probably complicating it too much…I’m a total perfectionist.)
I agree 100% Kailey! I love it too, but would like to know how I can improve and if I’m being too much of a perfectionist. 🙂
So obsessed with lettering!
